Watch: Patrick Mahomes earns rare praise from LeBron James that puts him on Stephen Curry’s level

LeBron brought up the NFL star on his new basketball podcast.

The whole point of LeBron James’ new podcast with JJ Redick is that it is all about basketball and nothing else: no hot takes, no gossip, no clickbait. And yet, in the very first episode, Patrick Mahomes reinforced the fact that his greatness is always the exception to the rule.

As Bron and JJ discussed Stephen Curry’s impact on basketball, it didn’t take long for the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback to get brought up in the conversation about players so good they changed the game. “In 08-09, whenever that little lightskin f****r came in the league,” James said with a laugh of the Golden State Warriors guard, “he changed that whole narrative.”

“He singlehandedly changed ‘no lead is safe.’ It’s like Pat Mahomes right now,” he added. While Curry made crazy comebacks possible because of his elite three-point shooting, Mahomes puts teams who have a lead against the Chiefs on edge in a sport where every score counts the same. He’s just that good.

Mahomes authored the largest comeback in Kansas City Chiefs history by storming back from down 24-0 in a playoff game against the Houston Texans in 2020, eventually winning 51-31. Perhaps even more impressive, the Chiefs trailed by 10 points in each of the last two Super Bowls against the Philadelphia Eagles and the San Francisco 49ers. And yet, Mahomes, Travis Kelce and Co. are still back-to-back champions.
