ROYAL NEWS LIVE: Prince Harry ‘holding’ Meghan Markle back from confrontation with King Charles: ‘Furious’ “She’s one step away from calling Charles about the clash but Prince Harry is holding her back,” a royal insider said of Meghan.
Prince Harry is reportedly holding back a “furious” Meghan Markle from a confrontation with his father King Charles after His Majesty seemingly overshadowed the Duchess of Sussex’s recent product launch. Meghan’s new lifestyle brand American Riviera Orchard launched a line of strawberry jams, which were hand-numbered one to 50, but they have been overshadowed with the King’s own release of Highgrove Royal Estate Honey.
According to New Idea, the source revealed that “as far as Meghan is concerned” it’s “no coincidence” that her father-in-law decided to launch his $50 honey at the same time as her jam, and the Duchess is “furious” about it. “She is trying to establish herself as a lifestyle mogul, but now she’s competing with a royal rival,” the insider claims.
They add that Meghan is “convinced” that Charles also recently launched Highgrove Place, a cologne, in a “deliberate attempt to curb her success” by releasing two products. “She had no idea [about this] and now suddenly, as she sees it, there’s a glut of his products on the market,” the source claims. “She’s one step away from calling Charles about the clash but Prince Harry is holding her back.”
Meghan has reportedly had plans for her own men’s grooming range for some time according to her trademark filings. She also plans to sell things like make up, homewares, cooking utensils and pet food. The King has sold organic food for 34 years since creating Duchy Originals in 1990. According to Sky News, royal insider Tom Quinn said that Meghan “was in tears when the brand launched and her new jam was widely mocked for being expensive and nothing special”.
He added that she “cannot understand” the backlash from her work. “She still seems to be finding the backlash hard as she reportedly feels constantly criticized and as if she is ‘unfairly’ picked on.” Royal commentator Richard Eden labelled Meghan’s jam as a “publicity stunt”, that “encouraged royalists to purchase the King’s jam instead”.
