Prince William dumps his wedding ring and explanation shocks fans
Middleton is consistently wearing it.
Prince William’s choice to forgo wearing a wedding ring has long puzzled royal watchers, especially considering his wife, Kate Middleton, consistently wears her wedding band and engagement ring. The absence of William’s ring was particularly noticeable in a Mother’s Day photo shared by Kate, sparking curiosity about the reason behind it.
Contrary to speculation, the explanation is that William simply doesn’t like jewelry. This preference was evident even before their 2011 wedding, as St James’ Palace confirmed he wouldn’t be sporting a ring at Westminster Abbey. A palace insider clarified that William has never been inclined to wear jewelry, and this decision was entirely based on personal choice
“He’s not one for jewellery,” the source told the Mirror.
“He’s never worn any. He decided he didn’t want to wear one now. It’s all down to personal preference.” In contrast, Kate’s wedding ring holds significant sentimental value, crafted from Welsh gold owned by the Royal Family. Queen Elizabeth II gifted the gold to the couple after their engagement, and both William and Kate were involved in its design.
Additionally, Kate’s iconic sapphire engagement ring, once worn by Princess Diana, is a cherished piece of history that she carefully maintains. William’s choice sets him apart from his brother, Prince Harry, who prominently wears a platinum band since marrying Meghan Markle in 2018. Meghan’s ring, like Kate’s, also contains Welsh Gold, continuing the tradition for royal brides.
