Prince Harry and William’s ‘obsession’ with protecting their wives stems from same fear
Royal brothers Prince William and Prince Harry are thought to share the same worry for their wives, according to a royal expert.
Prince Harry and Prince William’s shared fear has led to the two royals being ‘protective’ of their wives Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton, according to a royal expert. The royal brothers have both appeared protective of their wives, with the fear thought to be rooted in their mother the late Princess Diana and her tragic death.
William and Harry were just 15 and 12 respectively when Diana died in a car crash in Paris. The ‘protective’ nature of the brothers has been seen in the decision from Harry and Meghan to step back as working royals in 2020 with Harry referencing the media attention in interviews and his autobiography Spare, as well as William’s recent concern for wife Kate as she stepped back from royal duties after abdominal surgery in January.
Royal expert Jennie Bond has now explained why the pair’s instincts come from as they saw Diana ‘relentlessly pursued’ and are ‘obsessed’ with stopping history repeat itself. “We have to remember that they watched their mother being relentlessly pursued.” She added: “Both William and Harry are obsessed with not allowing the same to happen to their wives. So I find it totally reasonable that William has ring-fenced his home life and insists on giving Kate all the time, privacy and space she needs to recover from fully from serious surgery…no matter how loud the clamour for evidence she is OK.”
The news comes as Meghan Markle and Prince Harry appear to have been handed a potential olive branch by the Royal Family after their latest website was recognised on the family’s own official site. Whilst bios for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex on the official Buckingham Palace website may have been made smaller, it appears the smaller mention is not thought to be a snub. Instead, it’s thought that the inclusion of Harry and Meghan’s own site could work as a potential olive branch for the pair.
While the Sussexes stepped away from the Royal Family in January of 2020, their detailed bios on the official Buckingham Palace website had remained untouched for the past four years. As the whole website has undergone an overhaul, their sections have been trimmed down to just 500 words combined but a key sentence now reads: “Information about the current work of The Duke and Duchess of Sussex can be found on their official website: sussex.com.”
The first sentence of their new profile explained that they “have stepped back as working members of The Royal Family” and goes on to give brief summaries of both of their most notable lifelong accomplishments. This now means they are now the only married members of the Royal Family that do not have their own individual profiles.
