Patrick Mahomes’ wife Brittany raises awareness on women’s health issues after fractured her back
Brittany Mahomes, wife of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, is urging fellow mothers to take care of their pelvic floor after suffering a fractured back.
The 28-year-old mom of two shared a photo on Instagram with a powerful message: “Just a daily reminder. Once you have kids please take care of your pelvic floor. Seriously. The pelvic floor, a group of muscles and tissues at the bottom of the pelvis, supports pelvic organs such as the vagina, uterus, ovaries, and bladder. Pregnancy and childbirth can weaken these muscles, leading to various complications.
Mahomes welcomed her youngest child, son Bronze, in November 2022, and daughter Sterling in February 2021. Although she signed the message as “a girl with a fractured back,” she did not disclose details about her injury’s connection to the pelvic floor. Dr. Carolyn Swenson, a urogynecologist, explained that while pelvic floor complications are common after childbirth, bone fractures are rare, occurring in less than 1% of vaginal deliveries. Mahomes’ injury highlights the importance of pelvic floor health.
Complications can include vaginal pain, frequent urination, pelvic organ prolapse, and pelvic and spinal support issues. Swenson emphasized the need for awareness and treatment, noting that physical therapy is a primary treatment option. Having celebrities as Mahomes bringing these ailments under the spotlight may help riase awareness, said Swenson. “And hopefully it will also let other mothers know that there are treatments, that there are physicians and providers out there who can help them get better.”
