Patrick Mahomes’ stinging response to Tyler Lockett for claiming Dallas Mavericks cheated: The Mavericks are tied with the Oklahoma City Thunder after four games of the Conference Semifinals in the NBA Playoffs
Not everyone is happy with the Oklahoma City Thunder’s narrow, but key, victory over Luka Doncic’s Dallas Mavericks as Tyler Lockett claimed the Slovenian’s side cheated and the Texas-born Patrick Mahomes is having none of it whatsoever.
Mahomes, the star of the NFL and Kansas City Chiefs, is a fan of the Mavericks and tends to go and watch them whenever he gets a break from throwing incredible passes to Travis Kelce or Rashee Rice on the football field. He’s very passionate about his basketball, so when Lockett, who plays for the Seattle Seahawks, claimed “They really cheating in Dallas,” the three-time Super Bowl champion brutally shut that down.
“Come on bro,” Mahomes said, with three laughing emojis. Whilst it isn’t aggressive, it’s certainly insulting by ridiculing Lockett’s stance and effectively saying he doesn’t know what he’s talking about and he’s being dramatic. Mahomes actually headed to the American Airlines Center along with his wife to watch his home team shoot some hoops through Doncic and Kyrie Irving but he left with a sour taste in his mouth.
A victory for the Texan side would have given them a 3-1 series lead, requiring just one more win to progress to the Conference Finals but now they have it all to do after losing to the Thunder 100-96. After two quarters, the Mavericks held a very strong position as they led the Thunder 54-43 but two disastrous second-half quarters saw the lead obliterated. Firstly, they only put up 15 points in the third as their offense stalled before then allowing 35 points in the fourth.
It meant that they lost by four points when they had a place in the next round essentially on the horizon, in what would have been a strong message to the rest of the NBA if they had dumped out the Western Conference leaders. The next series will take place on Wednesday, May 15 at the Paycom Center in Oklahoma, with the game starting at 21:30 ET/18:30 PT.
