Mother of girl critically injured by Andy Reid’s son goes to court, remains angry with Missouri governor
She fears he will commit another crime.
The mother of a girl who was injured in a crash involving the son of Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said she will not forgive the perpetrator for the damage he has done to her family. Britt Reid served 16 months of a three-year sentence after pleading guilty to felony driving while intoxicated resulting in serious physical injury.
According to prosecutors, Reid was driving about 84mph in a 65mph zone when he hit two parked cars near Arrowhead Stadium in February 2021. Six people were injured in the crash, including Miller’s daughter Ariel Young, who was only five years old at the time. She sustained a traumatic brain injury and spent 11 days in a coma, with a further two months in hospital. Now eight, Ariel has made significant progress since the accident but still has difficulties on a daily basis with development delays and takes special education classes.
Despite this, the governor for Missouri, Mike Parson, commuted Reid’s sentence, meaning Reid will remain under house arrest under the conditions of his parole until October 31, 2025. The decision left the victim’s mother, Felicia Miller, shocked and hurt with a sense of injustice, especially as she was not informed about his release.
“We went to court, we [were] told, ‘you’re going to get justice’,” Felicia Miller told ESPN interview. “He’s put away for a year and about three months. So we didn’t get justice. It’s not enough. “I know they say sometimes you have to forgive and forget to move on. But looking at my baby every day and seeing my daughter, how she has to live, and then seeing how he could be back at home, comfortable.”
