In heartbreaking news that has sent shockwaves through the NFL community, Kansas City Chiefs running back Isiah Pacheco has reportedly died in a tragic car accident late Saturday night. He was just 24 years old.
According to preliminary reports, the accident occurred near Overland Park, Kansas, where Pacheco was reportedly driving home after a private charity event. Witnesses say his vehicle collided with a truck at a major intersection. Emergency responders arrived quickly, but Pacheco was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities have not released details regarding the cause of the accident, though early indications suggest slick roads and low visibility may have been contributing factors. An investigation is currently underway.
News of Pacheco’s passing spread rapidly on social media, with teammates, coaches, and fans expressing grief and disbelief.
Patrick Mahomes posted simply: “I have no words. I love you forever, brother.”
Travis Kelce added: “This one hurts more than I can say. Pacheco had the heart of a lion and a soul that lit up the room.”
Drafted in the 7th round of the 2022 NFL Draft, Pacheco quickly rose to stardom thanks to his explosive speed, relentless energy, and emotional intensity on and off the field. He played a key role in the Chiefs’ Super Bowl LVII victory, and had become a fan favorite across the league.
Chiefs head coach Andy Reid, visibly shaken at a late-night press conference, said, “Isiah wasn’t just a great football player—he was a great human being. We’re devastated.”
Fans across Chiefs Kingdom have gathered at Arrowhead Stadium, laying flowers and Pacheco jerseys at the gates in his honor.
The NFL has not yet announced if the Chiefs’ next scheduled game will be postponed. A league-wide moment of silence is expected.
