The United States has honored one of its fallen heroes as Sgt. Benjamin N. Pennington, a 26-year-old soldier from Glendale, Kentucky, was brought home in a solemn dignified transfer ceremony at Dover Air Force Base.

 

Pennington became the seventh U.S. service member killed in the ongoing conflict involving Iran, after suffering severe injuries during an enemy attack on Prince Sultan Air Base in Saudi Arabia on March 1. He passed away days later, on March 8, despite efforts to save his life.

During the ceremony, military officials and national leaders paid their respects as the flag-draped transfer case carrying Pennington’s remains was carefully removed from the aircraft. The dignified transfer is a tradition used by the U.S. military to honor service members who lose their lives while serving their country.

Sgt. Pennington served with the 1st Space Battalion, 1st Space Brigade at Fort Carson, Colorado, a unit responsible for missile warning systems, satellite communications, and other critical defense operations.
