Emily Ratajkowski recently revealed the reason why she has become a fan of Taylor Swift: On her latest High Low with EmRata podcast episode, the model, 32, spoke about how she was not particularly interested in the singer’s music until someone she dated helped change her mind
Emily Ratajkowski recently revealed the reason why she has become a fan of Taylor Swift. She also revealed to that she went to one of the 33-year-old Midnights hitmaker’s recent concerts amid her ongoing The Eras Tour and enjoyed the show.
‘I kind of grew up [with] a little snobbery around my generation,’ she explained to her podcast guest, Troye Sivan, for the episode. ‘I wasn’t somebody who listened to pop music a ton.’ The author — who previously dated Harry Styles and now has an ex in common with Swift — one of her past beaus was ‘talking about [how] just because something’s popular doesn’t mean that it isn’t excellent.’ ‘Actually, a lot of times the things that are popular are actually just incredibly good,’ she continued.
‘I came around,’ she then said about her newfound admiration for Swift. ‘It changed it for me completely.’ ‘I was not a Swiftie and now I’m like, “You know what that means? That means I was a misogynist that I didn’t f*** with Taylor Swift”,’ she explained. ‘Because I went to her concert and I was like, “This person is an incredible songwriter, an incredible performer, and anybody who says anything else? Like, they have issues. And actually maybe not a very sophisticated palette,’ she said obviously impressed with the Grammy-winning songwriter.
‘If you don’t like Taylor Swift, then, like, you don’t understand things,’ she said. Last May, the My Body author attended Swift’s concert in East Rutherford, New Jersey and shared a TikTok video of herself enjoying the show. In an interview with Elle in March, she defended Swift after a clip from her 2012 appearance from Ellen DeGeneres’ eponymous show resurfaced.
The talk show host had, at the time, put photos of several famous men in front of Swift’s face and asked her to point out everyone she had dated. ‘She’s another example of a woman who has been faced with such blatant misogyny and sexism,’ she said about the video that mocked the songstress and her love life. ‘And yet we don’t want to admit that, because she’s powerful and successful, and also she’s white,’ Ratajkowski added.
‘There’s a bunch of reasons — which I think are fair and important to also bring up in the conversation — but that clip in particular was just so striking to me, because she was communicating very clearly about why she didn’t feel comfortable with what was happening,’ she continued. ‘It was making everyone laugh,’ she recalled. ‘It actually upset me.’
