DISCLOSED: Taylor Swift: Flashback as teenage Taylor talks fans, family and why she loves making music
Taylor Swift is one of the biggest pop stars in the world right now, but 15 years ago she was just starting her journey to becoming the global phenomenon she is today. In 2009, aged 19 years old, she popped over to the UK to chat about her British fans, her love of music and connecting with her fans on one of the first music social media sites – MySpace.
She also said “It’s a goal of mine to tour the world”… Fast forward 15 years and Taylor Swift is in the middle of one of her biggest world tours to date, the Eras Tour. As part of the world tour Taylor is performing 151 shows across five continents, including the UK which she’ll visit this summer. Speaking to the BBC, Taylor was asked what her parents said when she told them she wanted to be a music star.
“My parents have always been really amazing,” she said, adding that they said they’d support her “100%” in whatever she wanted to do. But she says it was obvious she was going to stick with music as it was her only hobby that she didn’t give up on. “I tried every sport and I quit,” Taylor said, but “music – I could never put it down”. The hosts also ask her about how her fans influence her music.
Taylor speaks about how using social media lets her get close to her fans and she listens to their advice about which songs to release as singles – whatever the record company bosses say. Swifties also won’t be surprised to hear Taylor speak about using her emotional and personal life in her songs. “The only way I know how to deal with anything – happiness, sadness, confusion, frustration, anger… Writing songs about it is the only way I know how to deal with it,” she said.
The Eras Tour has broken loads of world records including being the highest grossing tour of all time, and the first to earn $1 billion in revenue. Taylor has also released a movie of The Eras Tour which fans could see in the cinemas.
