The Paley Center for Media has announced that Tyler Perry will receive its highest accolade at the Paley Honors gala in Beverly Hills on 4 December 2024. The event will recognize Perry’s remarkable contributions to media, spanning over 2,000 episodes of television and 28 feature films.
Since 2019, he has also led Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta, according to the New York Post. Maureen J. Reidy, President and CEO of the Paley Center for Media, praised Perry’s impactful career. “Through his acclaimed and prolific body of work, Tyler Perry has solidified his place as one of media’s greatest and most impactful figures,” she said.
“With each new project, he continues to move our industry, and our culture, forward. It is our great privilege to present Tyler with our highest honor, the Paley Honors Award.” Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will be prominent supporters at the gala. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are part of the Tribute Host Committee, leading the celebrations for their close friend.
“Tyler Perry has been a steadfast friend to us,” said Harry and Meghan in a statement. “We are thrilled to support him in this well-deserved recognition.” Other notable members of the Host Committee include Whoopi Goldberg, Gayle King, and George Lucas. Perry, 54, expressed his gratitude for the honor.
“Throughout my career, I have strived to bring people together and to give a voice to those often underrepresented in media,” Perry stated. “Media has served as a vital platform for this mission, and I’m honored to receive this award from the Paley Center for Media.” Perry’s support for Harry and Meghan has been significant, according to the Tatler.
He offered them refuge at his home after they stepped down from royal duties in 2020. He is also the godfather to their daughter, Lilibet, who turned three this year. Tyler Perry’s bond with the couple dates back to when Meghan joined the royal family in 2018, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
He reached out to offer support, understanding the challenges she faced. In a 2022 interview with The Cut, Meghan recalled Perry’s kindness. “He said he was praying for me and that he understood what this meant. He told me I could call him anytime,” she shared. Perry’s support continued when the couple moved to Montecito, California.
