EXCLUSIVE: Taylor Swift Fans Celebrate Scooter Braun’s Retirement Announcement: ‘Taylor Ruined His Career’

Scooter Braun just announced his retirement from music management—and Taylor Swift fans are more than happy to see him go. In a very lengthy Instagram message posted on June 17, the controversial music manager revealed he came to this decision after one of his “biggest clients” decided to go in a “new direction.” Back in August 2023, Puck reported that Justin Bieber split from his longtime manager and hadn’t spoken to Braun “in months.” A few days later it was revealed that Braun was no longer repping top clients Ariana Grande, Demi Lovato, and Idina Menzel.

“We had been through so much together over the last decade, but instead of being hurt, I saw it as a sign,” Braun wrote in his post. “You see, life doesn’t hand you YOUR plan, it hands you GOD’s plan. And God had been pushing me in this direction for some time.” He also cited his family as a reason for a career shakeup, writing, “As my children get older, and my personal life took some hits, I came to the realization that my kids were three superstars I wasn’t willing to lose. The sacrifices I was once willing to make I could no longer justify it was time to step into a new role.”

While Braun’s comments section is filled with support from friends and followers, Taylor Swift fans are having a much different reaction. “Yeah no he doesn’t want [to] spend time with his kids, Taylor ruined his career,” one person replied to iHeartRadio Canada’s TikTok post. “As she should.”

“SWIFTIES WE WON!!!!!🙌,” another commented, while one Taylor Swift fan quoted “The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived,” writing, “AND I’LL SAY GOOD RIDDANCE !!!” Many others simply referenced Swift’s popular Midnights track by commenting, “Karma.” “Spider boy, king of thieves officially retires from artist management,” TikTok user Ginnie said in her own video, referring to the same song. “Alexa, Google, whatever your device is, play ‘Karma.’”

Braun is not out of the game completely. In his post Braun revealed he’s prioritizing his position as CEO of Hybe America, the US division of the entertainment juggernaut. It’s no surprise fans of Taylor Swift are coming for Scooter Braun, considering their feud sparked her decision to rerecord her first six albums. Braun represented Kanye West during the entire “Famous” debacle, so Swift was devastated to learn her former label, Big Machine Records (run by Scott Borchetta), sold her masters to the manager in 2019 without warning or granting her the opportunity to buy them herself. At the time Swift described the sale as her “worst-case scenario.”

“All I could think about was the incessant, manipulative bullying I’ve received at his hands for years,” Swift wrote of Braun. “Essentially, my musical legacy is about to lie in the hands of someone who tried to dismantle it.” Thanks to Swift’s game-changing decision to rerecord her first six albums, Braun ended up selling her masters to an investment group in 2020. Swift moved forward with her (Taylor’s Version) records knowing Braun would still make money from her original catalog.

In 2022, Braun said he only had one regret about the controversial business deal. “I think that when you have a conflict with someone, it’s very hard to resolve it if you’re not willing to have a conversation,” he NPR’s Jay Williams. “So the regret I have there is that I made the assumption that everyone, once the deal was done, was going to have a conversation with me, see my intent, see my character and say, ‘Great, let’s be in business together.’ And I made that assumption with people that I didn’t know.” Consider this the end of Taylor Swift vs. Scooter Braun.
