Taylor Swift Edinburgh Show RECAP: Global superstar tells Murrayfield ‘we need to do this again’ as singer wows Scottish crowd in epic three-and-a-half gig on the opening night of her UK Eras Tour

Thousands of Swifties descended on Edinburgh tonight as Taylor Swift wowed the Murrayfield crowd and told them ‘we need to do this again’ on the opening night of her Eras Tour in the UK. The American megastar, 34, touched down around lunchtime on Friday before she was whisked away in a blacked-out vehicle accompanied by a police escort.

She is performing on Friday, Saturday and Sunday in Edinburgh before heading to Liverpool, Cardiff and Wembley. Videos shared on social media show Taylor Swift pausing her sell-out Eras Tour in Edinburgh to check that a fan was okay. The singer noticed some people at the front of the crowd in difficulty and held a cord for a long time.

She asked the fans ‘you good?’ as she waited for the medical team to reach them. A huge queue has formed for the trams in Edinburgh as fans try to leave Murrayfield after the Taylor Swift concert. Public transport in the city has been running at increased capacity today to take the tens of thousands of Swifties to and from the concert venue. However, those trying to travel have still been faced with lengthy queues. Taylor had to take a brief pause as her hand seized up mid-performance.

‘This has never happened before, it’s so embarrassing. It’s like a claw’, she said. Taylor was able to keep going after massaging her hand on stage. Taylor told the crowd: ‘This is a tradition I started on the Eras Tour where I do a different thing every night. ‘Tonight I have a feeling the song I want you to hear is going to match up with what you want to hear.’ The singer’s first choice was Would’ve Should’ve Could’ve from the album Midnights.

This was followed by Tis The Damn Season from the Folklore album. Mother and daughter Laura and Rosa Wilson from Glasgow said they had a ‘brilliant time’. Laura, 44, said: ‘We’ve never seen her live before and it was everything we’d hoped for, absolutely sensational in every way. ‘She is an incredible performer. And the crowd were so receptive of that. I think Taylor Swift herself was bowled over by it.’ Sara Johnson, 40, gushed: ‘She was beyond amazing, absolutely incredible.

‘She was the epitome of fine and divine and proved why she is one of the world’s biggest selling artists. ‘Tonight was simply incredible. I won’t ever forget it.’ Taylor has hinted she will be back in Scotland again to huge cheers from the crowd. She told the crowd: ‘This has been the most insane thing. We have to do this again!’ Marjorie is said to be an emotional tribute to Taylor Swift’s grandmother, opera singer Marjorie Finlay.

Swifties turned on their phone torches and waved them in the air as Taylor took to the stage to perform the song. Majorie’s lyrics refer to the singer’s regret at not knowing her maternal grandmother as well as she would have liked. The lyrics go: ‘If I didn’t know better, I’d think you were listening to me now. If I didn’t know better, I’d think you were still around.’
