Meghan Markle ‘wants to discover her roots’ as she snubs UK return for Nigeria trip; Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will soon embark on a trip to Nigeria to take part in talks on the Invictus Games, with the Duchess having special ties to the country
Meghan Markle has a special connection to Nigeria and one expert believes she will want to “discover her roots” when she visits the country with Prince Harry next month.
The couple will visit Nigeria in May to take part in talks about the Invictus Games. During their stay, Harry and Meghan are expected to take part in cultural activities and meet with service members and their families. The trip will take place after Harry’s solo visit to the UK. The trip to Nigeria will be extra special for Meghan after she revealed she has Nigerian ancestry. Royal author Ingrid Seward believes this could be the reason for Meghan wanting to go on the trip.
During an appearance on GB News, she said: “She’s going to apparently go to Nigeria with Harry, they’ve been invited there. Because when she did her sort of DNA test, she discovered she was 43 per cent, Nigerian. So she wants to discover her roots.” Meghan made the revelation in an episode of her podcast Archetypes. Speaking to Nigerian-American actor Ziwe, Meghan revealed she is “43 per cent Nigerian” and said she discovered her ancestry after having her genealogy done “a couple of years ago.”
At the time, Meghan said she didn’t know which tribe her ancestors were from but planned to “dig deeper into all of this”. Ziwe said the news was “huge for our community,” adding: “No, honestly, you do look like a Nigerian, you look like my aunt Uzo. So this is great.” The Duke and Duchess of Sussex signed an exclusive £80million contract with Netflix after stepping down from the Royal Family. They currently have two new shows in production, one about cooking and one about polo.
Meghan’s cooking show will tie in with her new business, American Riviera Orchard and will celebrate the joys of cooking, gardening, entertaining, and friendship. Harry’s polo show was filmed at the US Open Polo Championship.
