L’Jarius Sneed already has the contract he wanted with the Titans to the sadness of Mahomes and Andy Reid. How much will he earn?

The departure of L’Jarius Sneed from the Kansas City Chiefs to join the Tennessee Titans was one of the big surprises of this offseason. Now that the initial surprise has passed, the details of the contract have begun to emerge and are even more surprising than the original news. Sneed was at the end of his rookie contract with the Chiefs, worth $3.9 million over four years. In recent months, the team had tagged the cornerback as the franchise player and offered him a one-year, $19.8 million extension through 2024.

However, Sneed was determined to get a more lucrative and long-term contract, so he decided to listen to offers from other teams, including the Indianapolis Colts and the Titans. In the end, Tennessee won the bidding war with a massive contract that fulfilled all of the player’s wishes.
According to NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport, the Titans convinced Sneed to leave the reigning Super Bowl champion with a four-year, $76.4 million deal.

Citing sources close to the negotiation, Rapoport said Sneed received a $20 million signing bonus, and $55 million of the contract is guaranteed. The player’s average salary, according to Spotrac, will be $19.1 million annually, and his base salary for 2024 will be $19.8 million. The contract with the Titans made Sneed the sixth-highest-paid cornerback, and his guaranteed income is fourth among players at his position.
What it means for the Chiefs

After bolstering their offense by signing the likes of running back Tony Pollard, receiver Calvin Ridley, and center Lloyd Cushenberry, the Titans have taken on the task of strengthening their defense. Before Sneed, they had signed cornerback Chidobe Awuzie from the Cincinnati Bengals.  Aside from losing one of the mainstays of their deep defense, the Chiefs didn’t feel much of an impact on their salary cap, as Sneed’s contract was an entry-level one and had already expired.
