Brittany Mahomes and Patrick declared that they want Taylor Swift at a game at Kansas City current (they are co-owners of club)
Patrick and Brittany Mahomes hoping to tempt Taylor Swift into watching another sport with them.
Taylor Swift had an unforgettable foray into the NFL last season. Travis Kelce’s girlfriend became a staple at Kansas City Chiefs games in 2023 as the team went all the way to the Super Bowl and won. The popstar attended numerous Chiefs games throughout the regular season and playoffs and often enjoyed the action alongside new bestie Brittany Mahomes, wife of Chiefs’ superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
Fresh off the Super Bowl win, the Mahomes’ are now trying to tempt Swift into enjoying a new sport by attending a Kansas City Current game at the historic new CPKC Stadium. The Current are a National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) franchise and Mahomes and his wife form part of its ownership group. “We might get her here at some point, she’s a busy woman and Travis is a busy guy,” Patrick said. “So, maybe during season or something like that we’ll get her out to a Kansas City Current game. She loves supporting Kansas City just like we do and I’m sure Brittany can nudge her and get her here pretty easily.”
Brittany added: “That’s definitely on me, that’s definitely on me. I’ll work on it, I will work on it.” The Chiefs QB joined the ownership group in January 2023, becoming the first NFL player to have a stake in an NWSL team and it’s a sport close to his wife’s heart. Brittany had a brief career as a soccer player, first at the University of Texas at Tyler, where she scored 31 career goals, the second-most in program history before heading to Icelandic club UMF Afturelding. She ultimately gave up on her career and now makes a living as a personal trainer.
The ownership group has overseen the development of the Current’s new $120 million (£93m) CPKC Stadium, the first stadium built specifically for a women’s professional sports team in the world. The soccer-specific stadium is located in Kansas City, Missouri and opened for the Current’s first home match of the new NWSL season on March 16, 2024. The riverfront stadium, which seats 11,500 fans, was sold-out for the match which saw the home side clinch a thrilling 5-4 win over the Portland Thorns in their season-opener.
Current head coach Vlatko Andonovski said: “I am happy for the three points but I’m so much more excited for the stadium, the atmosphere, and the moment. “This is the beginning of the change. This is going to forever change women’s soccer.” Midfielder Lo’eau LaBonta added: “I hope that when young girls see this stadium and think that when they get to this age, it’s going to be equal pay, they’re going to have their own locker room, their own stadium.
“That’s the goal.” The NSWL season runs until June before picking up in late July after the Olympics until November. The Current have 12 more home matches to play this season so there’s still time for Swift to get to a game. She’s currently on the international leg of her Era’s Tour and could get to a Current game if her schedule allows it. Maybe she’ll even take Kelce with her.
